3D Printing and Making

In this 3D printing and design workshop, you'll learn the basics of 3D modeling and why it's so important to us today.

Adobe Acrobat

This 90 minute hands-on workshop, introduces AdobeAcrobat. You will use acrobat tools create and modify file in the portable document format (pdf).

Adobe Acrobat PDF Accessibility

In this 90 minute workshop, you will be introduced to the basic design elements required to create an accessible document. You will be introduced to the tools in Adobe Acrobat Professional that will help you identify and correct accessibility issues. No previous experience is required.

Adobe Dreamweaver

This 90 minute workshop introduces Dreamweaver as a web development tool. The student will learn an intermediate level of web development, including how to define a site, formatting with Cascading Style Sheets, and creating rollovers, layers and tables. This class is designed for those with little to no prior web experience. Prior knowledge of Dreamweaver is not required.

Adobe Flash

Create a multimedia presentation using Flash, one of the premier tools for web-delivered content and effects. Use the timeline to place text and graphics; create animations; incorporate audio; and publish your Flash movie.

Adobe Illustrator

A 90 minute hands on class covering the basic aspects of Adobe Illustrator.  Topics covered include basic functionality such as creating and editing paths, objects, outlines, fills, type, bitmap images, and other tools.

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is the preferred program for professional quality publications including flyers and information pamphlets. In this 80 minute hands-on workshop you will be introduced to the basic features of Adobe InDesign.

Adobe InDesign for Journalism

In this hands-on workshop you will be introduced to the basic features of Adobe InDesign including page setup, layout, addition of text and graphics, formatting and discussion of printing issues. This class will focus on the news paper layout.

Adobe InDesign Trifold​

Adobe InDesign is the preferred program for professional quality publications including flyers and information pamphlets. In this 80 minute hands-on workshop you will be introduced to the basic features of Adobe InDesign used to create a trifold brochure including page setup, layout, addition of text and graphics, formatting and discussion of printing issues.

Adobe Lightroom

A 90 minute workshop that will teach you the basics of image management and enhancement using Adobe Lightroom.

Adobe Photoshop

This 90 minute hands-on workshop, introduces Adobe Photoshop.  You will use Photoshop tools and palettes to select and modify existing graphics, and work with layers to edit and transform images. Options for saving and printing graphics.

Adobe Premiere

A 90 minute hands-on advanced level workshop for editing video utilizing Adobe Premier. Classes are offered on Macintosh video editing workstations. 

Apple Final Cut

A 90 minute hands-on advanced level workshop for editing video utilizing Final Cut Pro. Classes are offered on Macintosh video editing workstations.

In this 90 minute Audacity workshop you will learn the basic functions needed to edit audio files.

Digital Media Accessibility: Captioning Video

In this course, we’ll learn how to caption video content on YouTube and using Amara in order to ensure that our digital media content, in particular videos produced by Western employees and posted the Western’s channels, are accessible to those who need this content. How to use handbrake to attach an SRT file.

Glowforge Certification

Learn the processes, file types, and materials used when laser cutting with Glowforge at the STC. Workshop must be taken in order to use the laser cutter.

Google Documents

In this 90 minute class you will learn the basics for using Google Docs a free, Web-based word processing, presentations and spreadsheets program.

HTML: A brief Introduction

Starting at zero, we'll go through the basics of HTML: what it is and how to use it.

Intro to Amazon Alexa

A 2-hour introductory workshop focused on voice controlled development principles for technology (i.e utterance design, intent design and text-to-speech). Students will be guided through implementing these principles on the Amazon Alexa framework. No previous experience required!

Intro to Arduino

A 90 minute hands-on workshop for learning to programing an Arduino (a single board microcontroler) using its integrated development environment (IDE) based on the Processing language project. 

Intro to Raspberry PI

A 90 minute workshop that will introduce you to the setup and use of The Raspberry Pi (a small single-board computer).

Microsoft Access

Upon completion of this 90 minute hands-on workshop, you will be familiar with the major components of an Access database - tables, forms, queries and reports. You will be able to evaluate the pros and cons of using a database vs a spreadsheet for specific tasks. You will be able to enter data, run and modify queries, and create simple forms and reports. No prior database or Access experience is required.

Microsoft Excel

In this 90 minute hands-on workshop, you will experience the basics of working with Excel including entering text and numbers, using formulas and functions to calculate totals, percentages, and averages, and creating a chart. No prior spreadsheet experience is required.

Microsoft Office Overview

In this 60 minute demonstration, you will be introduced to the basic elements of the Microsoft Office user interface and how they will impact the way you work. You will be introduced to Microsoft's new Fluent User Interface including The Ribbon, The Microsoft Office Button, The Quick Access Toolbar, Galleries and Live Preview. No previous experience is required.

Microsoft Word

Many students and faculty work with Word everyday without understanding some of the basics of this important software tool. In this 90 minute hands-on workshop, you will be introduced to the essential elements of Microsoft Word. Upon completion, you will be able to insert, delete, select, move and copy text; apply and change formats; control page breaks and use tables to organize information. You will be able to create a header and footer to repeat information on each page automatically. You will insert a photo, change margins and explore print options. Keyboard shortcuts and right-mouse shortcut menus will be included. No prior Word experience is required, though some experience will provide the most beneficial learning experience.

Prezi

This is a 90 minute hands-on workshop. You will learn how to use Prezi, an online presentation creation site, to create dynamic, media rich presentations. You will also learn how to present with Prezi on or offline.

SPSS Inc. SPSS​

SPSS is a statistical and data analysis software. This 80 minute hands-on workshop will use the SPSS online tutorial to introduce basic SPSS functions. Topics covered include opening, importing and creating datasets, viewing and changing the properties of variables, generating descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation) and charts.

No prior experience with SPSS is expected. Experience or need to generate statistics is most conducive to a beneficial learning experience.
